Located near the origin of Kamo River, Kifune Shrine worships Takaokami-no-kami, the god who oversees the supply of water. Records indicate that the shrine’s main hall was rebuilt in 677, making it a very old shrine.
During the Heian Period, famous woman poet Izumi Shikibu prayed at the shrine for reconciliation with her husband. Since her prayers came true, the shrine has become popular for praying for a marriage partner.
In Summer
Near the shrine are high-class restaurants where in summer, you can enjoy dining on a “kawadoko,” deck over the river.
