Hieizan Enryakuji Temple

The head temple of the Tendai Sect, located on Mount Hiei on the border of Kyoto and Shiga prefectures, was founded in 788 by the great Buddhist priest Saicho. To the east, the temple overlooks Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, which is called “Tendai Yakushi no Ike” (Pond of the Tendai Yakushi), and to the west, it is a scenic spot with a panoramic view of the ancient capital city of Kyoto. The Eizan Cable and Ropeway are also recommended.

Access: Approximately 35 minutes by car from the hotel under normal circumstances
