Commonly known as the Old Amagi Tunnel,
this is a tunnel on National Route 414 (old route) that links the city of Izu and the town of Kawazu in Shizuoka Prefecture.
445.5 meters long, the tunnel’s walls and entrance arches are all made of cut stone.
It is the longest stone tunnel in Japan that still exists today.
In 2001, it became the first road tunnel to be designated as an
important cultural property (architectural structure) of Japan, with the title of Amagisan Zuido.
